…but some of them are funnier than others. I’ve never met anyone who hasn’t been at least a little nervous about starting a new job, but usually they don’t get fired on the first day.
Unfortunately for Mr AJ Clemente, a newbie news anchor on the US North Dakota NBC channel, when his first words on air were “f******g s**t”, it wasn’t an anxiety dream the night before. Here’s the clip:
The credit definitely goes to his co-anchor, who, except for a facial twitch, gives no sign of noticing. Or perhaps she thought if she didn’t react then it didn’t happen.
In all fairness to Mr Clemente, he took it in good spirits, and when he was fired today said on Twitter: “Rookie mistake. I’m a free agent. Cant help but laugh at myself and stay positive. Wish i didnt trip over my “Freaking Shoes” out of the gate.”
His positivity may have been slightly buoyed by a barrage of sympathetic tweets under the hashtag #saveAJ. But despite a forgiving public, his producers were less than impressed. Still, overnight he’s now a celebrity. There’s no such thing as bad publicity huh?
Bottom line: For those of you starting a new job, or if you know someone who is, here’s some more serious advice. If it’s any consolation, you can’t do any worse than AJ.
